Fleishman-Hillard Vanguard is supporting Avon’s social campaign “Say No to Domestic Violence” and has helped organize a round table to discuss domestic violence against women. The event coincided with the “16 Days to End Violence against Women” international campaign (November 25 – December 10).
Participants at the event included representatives from the UN, the Russian Ministries for Public Health and Social Development, and Internal Affairs, as well as from ANNA the National Anti-Violence Center, AVON, and Tasha Strogaya, the ambassador of Avon’s social campaign “Say No to Domestic Violence”.
Participants analyzed the situation in Russia and defined a range of pressing issues to be solved. Statistics show that one woman is killed every hour in Russia because of domestic violence. Moreover, one in three women in Russia suffers from domestic violence. Over 70% Russians are aware of cases of domestic violence in the families of their friends and acquaintances.
At the round table, the experts discussed how and where a woman suffering from domestic violence may receive help and advice. The participants decided that a special nationwide helpline for women and a website should become a tool to raise awareness on the issue.
At the conclusion of the round table, the Russian Ministry of Public Health and Social Development voiced their support for Avon’s social campaign “Say No to Domestic Violence”.
