The Fleishman-Hillard Vanguard communications agency has provided PR support to raise awareness about the little known disease fibromyalgia. The campaign, initiated by Pfizer’s Russian office, was aimed to draw the attention of the media and wider society to the problem of fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia can be described as “a syndrome of hypersensitivity to pain”. It is one of the most common causes of chronic pain in women, who often do not realize that the constant tingling, body aches, fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety and other symptoms that they suffer may be caused by a serious illness that requires treatment. Despite widespread identification of fibromyalgia (it affects 2 to 4% of the population), there is still a lack of attention paid to the problem by relevant organizations and, according to the authors of the program, educational initiatives in this area need to be put into place.
As part of the project, Pfizer, together with Fleishman-Hillard Vanguard, held a series of press breakfasts in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Leading experts in neurology took part in the events. They presented to the media the symptoms and causes of fibromyalgia and identified a number of key factors influencing the development of the disease. Experts have drawn the following primary conclusion: Many people suffering from fibromyalgia are able to reduce their pain by strictly following the recommendations of specialists for treatment and by changing their lifestyle.
“The implementation of PR projects in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals is one of the core activities of our agency and we are pleased to offer our wide expertise in cooperation with one of the leaders in the biopharmaceutical market”, Elena Fadeeva, General Director of Fleishman-Hillard Vanguard, said.
